Foreign languages and cultures interest me. I took an interest in Swahili and Kenya last month after listening to Sauti Sol’s latest album, Afrikan Sauce. I signed up for Duolingo’s Swahili course and got some audio lessons once it occurred to me to learn Swahili so I could appreciate the music I had been listening to more than I already did.
Fast forward to now, some duolingo lessons, more Swahili Pop songs and a month later, I am in the HNG Internship 5. I am chatting with a friend from Kenya and I get the idea to find out how much it would cost to go to Kenya for 3 months. I need to find out how much a visa, flight ticket and accomodation would cost. Next step, housing. I end up having to review Timbu, a travel site for the internship and hunt for cosmetic bugs. The site looks good at first view from a PC. I take a second look, this time on my Android tablet. All hell is let loose. I search for hotels in Nairobi, Kenya and I am greeted by a hot mess. Several elements are out of place.
The result cards for the hotels have lots of unruly text and icons thats fail to sit right like they do when I view the same page on my PC. These bugs have had me geting my research results elsewhere and if you have 2 million Naira you are not using next year, let me borrow it for my “get out”. Hopefully, Timbu will shift shapes in a more pleasant manner that I will be able to use it to plan my trip as soon as you give me the money.
